The term power couple is thrown around a lot, but Hunter Woodhall and Tara Davis-Woodhall are the epitome of that. Olympians have both been successful in their events, most recently Tara winning gold in the long jump and Hunter in the men’s 400m T62 event at the Paris 2024 games.

Together, they’re partnering with Clinique’s powerhouse duos: Moisture Surge 100H Auto-Replenishing Hydrator ($41, originally $48) and Moisture Surge Active Glow Serum ($37, originally $49). We sat down with Tara to learn about her connection with the brand, how beauty influences her competitive mindset, and some of her favorite self-care habits.

Sugar: How does beauty affect your competitive mindset?

Tara Davis-Woodhall: My game is very masculine. It’s all about power; it’s all about being as fast as possible; it’s all about dominance. So it is very difficult to feel like a woman. Putting on makeup and making myself feel beautiful, making myself look like a glazed donut, it’s like everything I can think of. I don’t go to your typical job where you get to wear heels and blazers and dress up all the time. I have to go to the track and wear the uniform. So I love doing my hair and doing my makeup. It’s part of my path to becoming a gold medalist.

PS: What does your typical competition day look like to take care of yourself and stay healthy from start to finish?

TDW: It starts before the competition. We have to get our nails done; we have to do our hair; we have to get lasers and wax. On the day of the pageant, you just go about your daily routine with your skin care, makeup, perfume, music, dance vibes, everything.

PS: Tell me a little about your collaboration with Clinique and why it felt like a good fit.

TDW: We assume roles or partnerships; we want to make sure that we actually use them and have good communication with them. Growing up, my mom used Clinique all her life. I would steal her Clinique moisturizer, take it to my room, use it, apply it all over my body. Also, I love skin care.

PS: Have you influenced your husband Hunter’s beauty routine in any way?

TDW: I definitely inspired him. You are a dry skinned person, and we are always in the sun. Her use of my Clinique Moisture Surge is actually the funniest thing ever. And you actually use SPF. He wasn’t really big on it, but then you get older, and skin cancer starts to be a [bigger concern].

PS: What wellness habit has changed your performance and recovery this year?

TDW: We use multiple recovery devices. As we go, we try to bring as many as possible. We use these little devices called Firefly ($49). They connect to your peroneal nerve, and allow blood flow to your body without using your body.

And to find the real beauty of sleep. I’ve been going, go, go nobody. I have never wanted to sit down and sleep, but now I have found beauty in sleep and recovery.
