Whether you were a thriving member of the popular crowd or just couldn’t wait until you graduated to leave everyone behind, there’s a sense of dread that everyone feels when they leave high school. Your safety net is gone, everyone in your orbit drifts deeper, and life gets real – fast. And when we meet Rue, Maddy, Lexi, and the rest of the “Euphoria” gang in season three a few years after graduation, there’s that vibe change. As Donni Davy, head of the makeup show, explains this season’s fun theme: “We’re out of ideas and experiments and we’re reckless, we’re intentional, we’re unapologetic,” Davy tells Popsugar.

Makeup has been playing a role in “Euphoria,” and Davy and his team wanted it to continue for the new season. Working with the stars and the show’s creator, Sam Levinson, Davy made sure that the glamor translates to the big changes we see in the characters, depending on the amount of hardness. “Makeup should say something to the audience and move the story forward,” he said. “If it doesn’t make the audience feel something, it’s not fulfilling its potential.”

There are some important moments with Nate, Ali, and Cal later to look forward to (Davy says to expect a lot more when it comes to Nate, especially), as well as new characters, Magick and Kitty, played by Rosalia and Anna Van Patten, both wearing Davy’s favorite makeup looks this season. “You have to keep your eyes on the shiny, high-style looks that these actresses wear,” he teased. But the most exciting part of season three is the launch of the Euphoria x Half Magic Collection.

Here, you’ll find two new products, the Euphoria Eyeshadow Palette with six new shades named after leading female characters, and the B*tch Ur My Soulmate Extra Plush Lip Gloss. You’ll also find four limited edition shades in shimmering pastels, as well as some cult classics in fun Euphoria packs, all used in a set to create this season’s looks. “I am very excited that our Euphoria x Half Magic collection will be launched,” he said. “This collection is for the fans, which is why we wanted to give the products a behind-the-scenes feel. Every product developed was inspired by what we used on set, so you can use it to recreate the amazing look of the game.”

And with that, see how Davy keeps our favorite characters entertained this upcoming season.

Zendaya’s Rue

Rue’s glamor is mainly focused on making her dewy. Davy says makeup was minimal, using only Half Magic Dew Lock Setting Spray ($24) for that natural-looking glow and Half Magic Cheek Fluff Blush in Magic Brownie ($23) for added color.

Alexa Demie’s Maddy

Nothing defines Maddy’s look like her signature winged liner. “It’s part of the DNA of his makeup,” Davy said. “He was established hard from a young age, so it serves as his comfort garment in times when he needs to sing.”

In season three, Davy says Maddy needs to look like she’s serious and in control. There’s a little bit of what he calls a “subtle villain” in Maddy’s look, where it’s not outright evil, but her tactics show some calculation; her glam supports that effort to succeed. We see this in the trailer where Maddy is with Cassie in the pool on the roof, wearing a fur coat and winged liner. This is the moment when Davy says Maddy is honing her powers. “The audience [will] just know that every part of that department is purposely limited and designed to dominate Cassie,” said Davy.

To match the winged line, Davy went with neutral eyeshadow shades and mixed in smoky matte grays, taupes, and browns. There are also occasional colors, such as burgundy and indigo, in future episodes. As for the lips, Davy says she used a “strong, high gloss” to give Maddy a modern, moody spin on Hollywood glam.

Cassie by Sydney Sweeney

Davy says that Cassie’s glamor is the sweetest version of a seductress. “I was channeling her Pam Anderson meets Sabrina Carpenter vibe, but with hints of Euphoria’s signature glam. [with] It’s a shiny, winged line,” Davy said. “She wants to be noticed, desired, and portrayed by the man of her dreams.”

In the first episode, we see Cassie pretending to be a content puppy. For the look, Davy used Sculptitude Lip Liner in I’ll Pray for You ($20) and Magic Drip Glitter Lip Gloss in Y2K Cherub ($24) for Cassie’s lips.

Throughout the season, Davy accentuates Cassie’s blue eyes (which Davy says are more piercing and intense this time), with brown, gray, and black shadows like Half Magic Sparkle Stik in Cloud Kid ($26) and Champagne Snowflake ($26) on the waterline. She gave Cassie frosty lids with Half Magic Glitterpuck in Glimmer Pop ($33) and ultra-fine lashes with Eye-Electric Mascara ($26) for added definition. On the lips, Davy used a generous amount of Half Magic Sculptitude Long-Wear Lip Liner ($20) to accentuate the shape before topping it off with lip glosses and frosted lipsticks, like Crystal Butter Sparkly Lip Balms ($24) and Magic Drip Glosses ($12).

Cassie is also red this season, so Davy warmed up her complexion by adding spots to her nose and cheeks.

Maude Apatow’s Lexi

Davy describes Lexi’s style as “type A.” When we meet Lexi in season three, she’s determined to impress her boss at her TV job. “I thought [Lexi] waking up early before work, drinking coffee, ironing his collared shirt, and putting on makeup,” Davy said.

One key signature of Lexi’s look, red lipstick, is a throwback to the makeup (and life) lesson Maddy gave Lexi in season two. Not only did Lexi find the best lip color but she remembered the most important piece of advice Maddy taught her: 90 percent of life is confidence. “Lexi learned a lot from this course, and now she is determined to look at her beauty,” said Davy. “She’s not a ‘tinted moisturizer and go’ kind of girl.” For a red lip, Davy used Mouth Cloud in Self Help ($22).

Faye by Chloe Cherry

Rue gets Faye to help her pay off the debt she owes Laurie. For Faye’s light eye look, Davy uses Glitterpuck in Princess Ghost ($33) for a dreamy ice blue shadow and Magic Drip Glitter Lip Gloss in Dreamie Genie ($24) to create her lips. It’s the same products we see in Silver Slipper Strippers.

Jules by Hunter Schafer

Jules’ makeup this season is a reflection of her current emotional state. Davy says: “We don’t see a lot of happiness in the world he’s in. “There’s something hollow about Jules’ greatness this season. I would have liked to make a colorful, funny version of him. [role soon to be revealed]but that is not what the scriptures say.”

Although Davy says that Jules is in a dark place emotionally, we can still expect some happy make-up moments ahead. Jules’ color palette this season is very traditional. Think classic red lips and red nails. “Besides being a classic symbol of male desire, Jules’ recurring lips and nails are meant to stand out against the cold backdrop of her figure. [living space],” said Davy [certain upcoming scenes]we see just a hint of her cry coming through with a shimmering periwinkle eyeshadow that shimmers in the low light.”

For those types of occasions, Davy used a new limited edition shade, Glitterpuck Pressed Fairy Dust from the Euphoria x Half Magic collection. She says: “This is my favorite shade at the moment.
