Hair tools and I are not natural friends – I’m not very fussy about my hair but I love my Dyson hair dryer and it’s been going strong for the past five years without a problem. If it’s broken, I’m like it right away. I’ve seen a lot of hype about Dyson Airwrap™ so when Very.co.uk sent me the final set in a case I felt almost as excited as I would about a complex Lego set! There are many parts because it is a comprehensive set. You get the Dyson Airwrap™ Complete Long Hair Multi-Styler which is the body to which all the other ‘members’ are attached. That includes Airwrap™ Barrel 40mm, Airwrap Airwrap™ Barrel 30mm, Hard smooth brush, Soft soft brush, Coanda smooth dryer, Round leak brush, Filter brush and hard case to keep it inside.
First of all, I’ll be honest, it’s not easy at first. Pictures chart my progress and the best so far is the big picture! I was so happy! I spent a lot of time watching videos on how everything works (Dyson has their own but I preferred watching YouTubers and bloggers) and even then, I had to go back several times to make sure I got it right. But, let me tell you, once you get the Airwrap™ skill it’s a huge success – I was smiling when at the end, my hair started to wrap around the barrel with the wind and when I pulled it out, little waves appeared. I made the mistake of trying dry hair to begin with and the waves were hard to hold and came out quickly, but after moisturizing it, applying a styling product, everything held better. It is best to use it when your hair is slightly damp – the product suggests 90% dry but I would suggest more like 70-80% – obviously, you can use a styler to start the drying process.

There is no way I want those big, messy waves or curls because they are not my style at all so I kept them soft and I really like them. I think the first thing you should focus on is getting hold of the tools before you try to ‘style’ like that – the curls don’t come quickly – you’ll need to go a little bit but when it clicks, it’s a great idea to achieve!

This is an expensive tool so it comes with all kinds of gadgets and gizmos so you can get the most out of it. The most convenient to hold is a versatile brush – that’s perfect for fixing my fringe very quickly. Very early in the morning I have to fix it as I wake up like Medusa and I will use that part every day. Smooth brushes are great – just pull through your hair and you get a smooth and flexible finish. I prefer a firm so I can move the ends of my hair but I’ll be just as happy using that soft I think. If I have one comment, it’s that I don’t think the set needs both.

Now, enter the Coanda attachment. This is supposed to smooth your hair and reduce flyaways – it’s probably the trickiest paste to use as you need to play around with the settings and it has two sections. I think the effectiveness of this depends entirely on your hair type – if you have very thick hair, you won’t get the smoothing effect that you would if you had thin hair. You will need to do a lot of stages to get the most out of this and you may feel that using some guidelines would be easier. Parting is something you need to handle so make sure you have the right reliable hair clips. The smaller the letters you write the better the result and that will be the same for all tools.

I feel that if you love to style your hair, you won’t find anything like this in terms of flexibility and blending. For someone like me, who is a little weird with hair tools, it will take a long time to understand but the point is, I can and will get better with practice. Watch all the YouTubes you can find on it and don’t pay too much attention to the ones where the hair is pretty fast – that’s next level acting skills. I guess I could probably take it as an analogy for riding a bike – a bit shaky at first, but soon, we’re going downhill with no hands! I’m actually very happy with what I was able to achieve – I think the finished result looks strong and ‘done’. The more I practiced the better it got – the photos show my (many) efforts and this morning (kitchen photo) I just styled my hair, grabbed the Multi-Styler and the 30mm Barrel and here we go! I think I should have a certificate or something to mark the event 😊. You can get a Dyson Airwrap™ Complete Long Hair Multi-Styler at Very.co.uk HERE for £479 – I know, I thought it was a lot, but it does everything. I did a quick math on buying different tools and gadgets to do all the things Airwrap™ does and in that way, it sounds pretty reasonable. If that doesn’t sound like what you need, Very.co.uk has it baggage of styles to choose from – from basic to graduate level (aka the Dyson Airwrap™ Complete Long Hair Multi-Styler) and noticed that there are some sales items to be made.
