That number — based on two ticket purchases, including fees — is down about 8% from where it was at noon Saturday.

Many sites still show tickets for $10,000 each in the best sections of the stadium’s lower bowl, and some parking passes — no game ticket included — were going for $1,000 online, though a few could be found in remote areas for as little as $100 or more.

Earlier in the week, CFP executive director Rich Clark was asked how the Hard Rock Stadium ticket prices for this game were higher than the secondary market prices for Taylor Swift’s shows at the same arena during her recent world tour.

“More expensive than Taylor Swift? We’re here,” said Clark, smiling – and it should be noted that the CFP has nothing to do with setting the cost of the secondary market. “That’s good. I’ll just say that speaks to the excitement of the game.”

Miami easily surpassed its quota, as expected – the Hard Rock is its home stadium. Hurricanes season ticket holders have all been sent emails in recent weeks asking them to submit their ticket requests for each round of the CFP, and those who responded to that forum were lucky enough to get their hands on the hottest ticket in college football.

Indiana fans turned out in droves for the Hoosiers’ CFP games at the Rose Bowl and Peach Bowl, and it’s clear the Hoosiers have come to Miami again.

“I know they’re going to be good in this game,” Indiana linebacker Isaiah Jones said. “I think it’s going to be a statement that it’s in Miami, and I think we’re still going to see a very good number of Indiana Hoosiers fans.”

Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza, a native of Miami, can attest to that.

“Tickets are a real problem,” said the Heisman Trophy winner, “because there are a lot of family members who want to come to the game.”

No Lucas until the 2nd half

Miami will be without defensive end Xavier Lucas for the first half of Monday’s College Football Playoff game against Indiana because he was flagged in the second half of the Fiesta Bowl semifinal earlier this month.

The Hurricanes tried, but to no avail, to get the game reviewed.

Therefore, on Sunday in the final news conference of both teams before the title game, Miami coach Mario Cristobal said that he hopes that this rule will be amended in the future.

“We feel that it was handled unfairly, and now it affects the last game of the season,” said Cristobal. “We have the power, too, as a governing body and the power to re-look at that to give all teams due process and their best ability to compete in this game.”

Lucas was ejected in the fourth quarter of the Fiesta Bowl win over Mississippi. Miami was upset that a call earlier in the game against Ole Miss was overturned after review, saying it felt like the games were too similar.

Players who are flagged for targeting in the first half of the game should simply sit out of that contest. Those who are beaten in the second half are out of that remaining game and must sit through the first half of the next game.

National TV is taking notice

The Miami-Indiana game made it to NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” and CBS’s “Sunday Morning” this weekend.

SNL took a comical look at the antics of Miami alum Michael Irvin on the Hurricanes sideline, with Kam Patterson portraying Irvin in a segment on “Weekend Update.” The bit showed a photo of Irvin yelling at Miami coach Mario Cristobal; Patterson, as Irvin, said, “here I am whispering.”

Fortunately for Cristobal, the little guy didn’t get Irvin’s infamous smooch on the cheek of the Miami coach after one CFP win.

“I’d rather not be kissed by Michael Irvin. … This whole kissing thing, I’m not going to live like that,” Cristobal said, adding that he considers Irvin like a brother and enjoys having him around.

On “Sunday Morning,” host Jane Pauley — a proud alumna from Indiana — discussed the school’s rise from perennial football doormat to juggernaut, even drawing parallels to the movie “Hoosiers” and that heroic story. He credited an “unpleasant” coach in Curt Cignetti, along with “good coaching and a lot of money to back it up” as part of the reasons Indiana reached the title game.

And, of course, he featured Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza — a Miami native — and his rise to Indiana royalty.

“Florida boy,” Pauley said. “Well now.”

_____

Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season.
