Novak Djokovic admits he doesn’t have “little juice” but he has managed to challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open.<\/p>\n
The 38-year-old was the only man to beat Alcaraz or Sinner at a major tournament in 2025, defeating the Spaniard in the quarter-finals in Melbourne, and remains arguably their biggest threat despite his advanced years.<\/p>\n
Then Djokovic lost twice to Sinner and Alcaraz once in the semifinals of other slams, all in straight sets, but he said: “I know that, when I’m healthy, when I can put all the pieces of the puzzle together on a given day, I feel like I can beat anyone.<\/p>\n
“If I didn’t have that confidence and self-belief in me, I wouldn’t be here. I still have the drive and, of course, I understand that Sinner and Alcaraz are playing at a different level right now than everyone else.<\/p>\n
“That’s true, but that doesn’t mean nobody else has a chance. So, I always like my chances, in any tournament, especially here.”<\/p>\n
Melbourne Park has been the most successful venue of Djokovic’s career, with the Serbian having lifted the trophy 10 times, but he knows his body could be as big an obstacle as Alcaraz or Sinner.<\/p>\n
Djokovic struggled to maintain fitness in last year’s best-of-five sets, and has not played a match since early November after a string of injuries initially ended his 2025 season and caused him to miss this week’s tournament in Adelaide.<\/p>\n
“I had a bit of a setback,” he said. “That’s why I didn’t go there, but it’s been going really well so far here. Obviously every day there’s something here and there for me, and I think each of us, but generally I feel good and I’m looking forward to competing.<\/p>\n
