The Marlins wanted a right-hander Osvaldo Bido<\/strong> off waivers from the Rays, reports Daniel Alvarez Montes of El Extra Base. Tampa Bay designated Bido active last week. Miami has an opening on the 40-man roster after trading the left tackle Ryan Weathers<\/strong> to the Yankees, so a corresponding move would not be necessary.<\/p>\n Bido turned 30 this past October. He spent seven seasons with the Pirates before making his 27-year-old rookie debut in 2023, and spent the past two seasons with the A’s, who signed him to a massive contract in the winter of 2023-24 after Pittsburgh waived him. The sturdy 6’3\u2033, 175-pound righty has had an up-and-down run in the majors over the past three seasons, posting poor numbers in 2023 and 2025 but logging 63 1\/3 innings of 3.41 ERA ball with solid numbers in 2024.<\/p>\n In all, Bido pitched 193 2\/3 innings as a major leaguer. During that time, he held a combined earned run average of 5.07. Metrics like SIERA (4.60) and FIP (4.67) are a bit generous, but he’s been pitched as a serviceable swingman\/sixth starter for most of his time in the league. Bido averaged 94.7 mph with both his four pitches and sinker. His strikeout rate (20.9%) and walk rate (9.6%) are both worse than the league average, but not by much. He’s an extreme fly ball player but didn’t hit a home run until the 2025 season \u2014 though that was due to the Athletics’ temporary home at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento serving as the opening pad; Bido has given up 13 home runs in 44 1\/3 innings at home but just six in 35 1\/3 frames on the road.<\/p>\n Bido is out of the minor leagues, so he’ll either need to break camp with the Fish \u2014 possibly in a long relief role \u2014 or clear waivers before he’s sent down to Triple-A. Miami has been looking for some rotation depth after the trade not only for weather but also fit Edward Cabrera<\/strong>. Bido offers something for now, but the outfielder with a 5.87 ERA is far from a lock to stick in the lineup.<\/p>\n For now, the Miami circuit will include Sandy Alcantara<\/strong>, Eury Perez<\/strong> and (health permit) Braxton Garrett<\/strong>. There are no shortage of weapons to compete for starting jobs. The former’s high hopes Max Meyer<\/strong> he will be healthy after being laid off from a long-term injury. Janson Junk<\/strong>like Bido, he came to the Marlins as a reliever last year but pitched well enough to carve out a spot on the big league roster in ’26 – either as a starter or a pinch hitter. That’s right Ryan Gusto<\/strong>received last July Jesus Sanchez<\/strong>it offers the same skill set. High hopes ahead Dax Fulton<\/strong> again Adam Mazur<\/strong> missed time due to injury but should be healthy and in between innings. Most notably, expectations are high Thomas White<\/strong> again Robby Snelling<\/strong> – two of MLB’s most respected left-handers – both are elite.<\/p>\n There is a lot of talent in Miami’s rotation mix but also a lot of injury risk and uncertainty.
