Only HSV scored less than six away goals. Borussia have won 10 of their last 12 home games over two seasons, drawing twice and are the only team other than Bayern Munich to remain unbeaten at home this season. They have conceded just four goals in eight home games this season, keeping them on six points.

Advertisement

Head-to-head record: Borussia Dortmund are unbeaten in 13 league games against this opponent, celebrating 11 wins in the process. The last victory of the Hamburg-based club in the Bundesliga against BVB was more than 36 years ago: in November 1989, St. St. Pauli have lost more to BVB than any other team in the Bundesliga (13 defeats in 19 games) and conceded more goals (40). FC St. Pauli have not won a single game in their nine away games at Strobelallee (three draws, six defeats) and have gone without a win in Bremen (ten times).

<dialog aria-label="Image Lightbox" class="lightbox-overlay" aria-modal="true"/>

Statistics: With 36 points, BVB had their best first half of the season in seven years (they only had 25 points in the same place last year) and can count on a solid defense. They have gone nine games so far without conceding a goal, the most in the league, and only Bayern Munich have conceded fewer goals than Borussia Dortmund (15), who have conceded only four goals in the set so far. Leipzig was the only team to successfully defend the set pieces. After three games in a row without hitting, FC St. Pauli lost 2-1 at Wolfsburg earlier this year. This leaves the Hamburg club with 12 points, the lowest of any team (but they still have a game in hand). Only seven clubs have conceded fewer than 28 goals. Only Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund (172 each) have allowed fewer shots than the team from Millerntor (185). Like BVB, St. Pauli conceded only four goals in sets.

To undo the adjustment: In front of 29,546 spectators at the sold-out Millerntor stadium, BVB only found their rhythm after 20 minutes at the start of the 2025/26 season and took a deserved lead ten minutes before the break with a goal from Serhou Guirassy. After four minutes the scorer missed the chance to make it 2-0 on penalties. The goalkeeper of St. Pauli Nikola Vasilj also saved Julian Brandt’s hard shot, which was well placed two minutes after the restart. After Andreas Hountondji equalized at 1-1 in the 50th minute, the Black & Yellows were under pressure. A goal from Waldemar Anton (67′) and a great strike by Brandt gave BVB a 3-1 lead. But the game took another turn: Filippo Mane was sent off, a penalty was awarded and Danel Sinani scored to make it 3-2 in the 86th minute, followed three minutes later by Eric Smith’s equalizer to make it 3-3.

Advertisement

Biggest home win: On matchday 34 of the 1990/91 season, the Black & Yellows celebrated a 5-2 win over Kiezkickers. Gerhard Poschner and Michael Rummenigge scored in the first half, while Flemming Povlsen scored and Jürgen Wegmann added another in the second half for BVB in front of 30,624 spectators at the Westfalenstadion.

Compiled by Boris Rupert

Status: The second-place team faces the second-to-last team.
