NFC Notes: Kenneth Walker, Mike Macdonald, Seahawks

Seahawks S Nick Emmanwori he was confident that his team would win the big game, considering how many strong players they have in their Dark Side Defense.

“As humble as I can say this, watching the film, I was thinking, ‘We have so much of them,'” Said Emmanwori, via Michael-Shawn Dugar. “‘We will overwhelm them. We have too much.’ Big respect to them because we still had to face them, and they had a great team, a great scheme. But I knew we had so much more. We only have so much as a defense.”

“This team is one of players and relationships,” Emmanwori added. “I promise you. I wish they would record all the scenes (things), because they would see how strong this is. But we know how strong it was, so this team is different. It will be difficult to repeat this.”

Seahawks CB Devon Witherspoon spent part of his post-match interview arguing that HC Mike Macdonald and Emmanwori should have won Coach of the Year and Defensive Rookie of the Year.

“We’ve put ourselves in history, so it doesn’t matter,” Witherspoon said. “But talking about a coach who will fight for you? Who will treat you well? Who is the coach of the players? I love coach Macdonald. That’s my guy. That’s my dog.”

Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald told reporters that now QB Sam Darnold he has really proven himself after many doubts in his journey.

“Sam doesn’t care about obstacles,” Macdonald said, about PFT. “Everyone is making a story about this boy, they tried to write a story and write who he is as a person, who he is, he doesn’t care about him, he is the same every day since he appeared, he is strong, he is a great team member, his teammates love him. Everything he has done as he is a very good football player at our door. A leader who is the same every day. That is what he is and we have to talk about it to move forward.

Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker II was named the Super Bowl MVP after amassing 161 scrimmage yards, making him the first RB to win the award since Terrell Davis in 1998. Walker was quick to talk about the team individually after the big win.

“To be honest, I feel like I’m a team player,” Walker said, via Eric Edholm of NFL.com. “I’m not really focused on my personal gain. I want to make the best impact on my team in the best way I can.”

Walker reflected on the fourth drive of the game, where he heard several big runs put the ball in the running zone.

“(That’s when) I started to hear it. You start to break big runs. At first – Mike (Macdonald) always talks about it being a softening process – then the big runs started, and that’s when I started to hear it.”

“If I was telling myself as a kid right now, I wouldn’t have thought I was going to win the MVP. So, this is a real moment, and it doesn’t happen without the guys in the locker room.”
