Tyson Fury’s next opponent? After their sparring ‘drama’ Agron Smakici looks to fight Fury in a comeback fight | Debate News

Tyson Fury is out of time and looking for his next fight. A former sparring partner hopes to go with him.

A former two-time world heavyweight champion, Fury is looking to box either Oleksandr Usyk or Fabio Wardley, who already hold four major titles, later in the year.

But he has not fought since 2024 and is expected to have his first fight, possibly in April.

Croatia’s Agron Smakici puts himself ahead of the pack by taking on Fury next.

Smakici has a 21-3 (19) win record but is not well known in the heavyweight division.

After Fury announced his return to the ring this year, Sky Sports Boxing’s Andy Scott explored a possible first opponent for ‘The Gypsy King’.

But Smakici is familiar with Fury. He was the one who got into a fight with the heavyweight star when Fury cut a half-time postponing his first fight with Usyk.

Anger now remains between the former partners.

“Everything is possible,” said Smakici Sky Sports. “I would like to fight him.”

“It was the biggest drama,” the Croatian said of the incident.

“And if he’s a sausage, I’d like to beat him again,” Smakici added.

Smakici, however, cannot boast a competitive record that matches Fury’s. His biggest fight was the 2023 European Championship against Agit Kabayel, who is now the interim WBC heavyweight champion. Kabayel stopped him within three rounds.

Fury, by contrast, became a unified world champion in 2015 when he knocked out Wladimir Klitschko in Germany. In his return to the sport, Fury appeared in an exciting trilogy with Deontay Wilder as the WBC heavyweight world champion.

After impressing at both Wembley and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, he battled Usyk in an undisputed rivalry. His preparation for their first fight was interrupted by a cut he took in training with Smakici but he also couldn’t get Usyk for their rematch in 2024.

In early 2025 Fury announced that he would retire from boxing. But that decision was temporary.

“I’ve been away for a while but I’m back now, I’m 37 years old and I’m still boxing,” said Fury. “There is nothing better we can do than slap men in the face and get paid.

“I’m back now and I’ll be back for revenge.

“I want you to come back with the fist, I want us all to come back, I’m coming.”
