Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, this is a multi-year contract extension for LaFleur with the Packers.

A quick analysis of the Packers’ LaFleur contract extension:
— The emotional reaction to losing five straight games, especially the way the collapse of the NFC Wild Card Round unfolded, seemed to open the door for Ed Policy to make a big change. But the Packers don’t make emotional decisions, and all reports heading into the postseason suggested LaFleur wasn’t in danger of losing his job regardless of the outcome of the postseason. Bad teams make emotional decisions. The Packers didn’t make one here.
— Presumably, making this extension has been a policy and LaFleur plan for a long time. Policy comments before the 2025 season caught fire under the proverbial “hot seat” of LaFleur, but if the Packers had not moved on now, after becoming the fourth team in NFL history to enter the postseason on a four-game losing streak and suffering a historic playoff collapse, when would the franchise be? This was a crossroads moment, but the Packers didn’t seem to be looking down on the “move on” path.
— The biggest winner of this extension is the most important player on the list, Jordan Love. He will now enter his seventh season with LaFleur as his coach and player. Continuity between the coach and the quarterback is very important, especially for a quarterback who doesn’t know another system like a pro. The development of love can continue in the same way.

— LaFleur was going to be needed for the Packers moving forward. That, in itself, is not a good enough reason to retain a coach. But LaFleur gives the Packers a real, undeniable advantage as a respected player and playmaker with Jordan Love under center.
— Allowing coach LaFleur to sit out the final year of his contract would have been foolish, given the huge obstacles to recruiting a coaching staff and the ongoing disruption involved in having a disabled Ducks coach. But it’s too bad it wasn’t a viable option, because this seemed like the perfect situation for it. LaFleur is now under contract for multiple seasons through 2026, so the Packers are fully committed to him leading this Love-Parsons championship window. He must make the most of it.
— The next step will be to build an excellent coaching staff. LaFleur will likely need to replace defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, who is the top candidate for most openings, and the Packers will likely decide to move on from offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich, special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia and several other assistants. This is a big time. LaFleur needs to nail down his defensive coordinator hire and build an experienced staff to take his young, talented and often misunderstood team to the next level.
— LaFleur’s Packers should be better against top competition, late in the season and close games. It hasn’t been good enough in the last two years. Reaching the playoffs six of the past seven seasons is a real accomplishment, but every chance in the postseason is precious, and the Packers haven’t been much missed.

— The Packers locker room was fully behind Matt LaFleur to finish the season.
— Injury is an easy excuse. But does anyone doubt that the Packers will be contenders in 2026 if Jordan Love, Micah Parsons, Tucker Kraft, Zach Tom, Xavier McKinney, Josh Jacobs and Christian Watson stay healthy? The policy may have understood the situation and is happy to give this group another chance in 2026 and beyond.
