Liverpool 1 – 1 Burnley

Liverpool dropped points at Anfield after Marcus Edwards’ second-half equalizer was enough to hold Burnley to a 1-1 draw.

Dominik Szoboszlai missed a penalty in the first half before Florian Wirtz looked to have put the Reds on their way to a comfortable afternoon.

However, Burnley kept themselves in the game and took advantage when they came on through Edwards, who fired a smart finish past Alisson.

The Slot team have consistently struggled against the block opponents used against the defending Premier League champions and Burnley were the latest team to play a game of frustration.

With Wirtz in charge he should have had more than enough to outplay the visitors but, as they reached the hour mark with only Wirtz’s goals for their own efforts, the momentum shifted.

Alisson was unable to block Edward’s shot after Konate failed to block the attacker on the left side of the penalty area.

That put an end to all the work that had put them in complete control.

Slot’s side have gone down at Anfield against Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Sunderland and Burnley already this season.

Slot on Liverpool boos: We are frustrated as fans

Liverpool manager Space you understand the frustration at full time shown by Liverpool fans after a 1-1 draw Burnley.

Slot’s side have gone down at Anfield against Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Sunderland and Burnley already this season.

“It’s very frustrating,” Slot said

“In football, one team can get two chances and score one goal, while the other team has more chances and scores one goal, and you get the result we got today.

“In my head it wasn’t just boos, there was frustration. We’re Liverpool and we’re playing Burnley – we need to give them credit for the way they defended. But if we as Liverpool aren’t disappointed to draw against Burnley then something’s wrong.

“The players and I have the same frustration as the fans.

“We can talk about not losing in 12 but our level is higher than that. Our level wins all the games.”

Burnley boss Scott Parker, whose side are unbeaten in 13 games – including nine defeats – praised his players for seizing their opportunity.

“We had to deal with bad weather in the first half, but we showed a high level in the second half,” he said.

“We changed a few things at half-time, it was important that we were in the game at that time, we had the courage to play football and we deserved our goal. It was a great game.

“The penalty was soft, but if the referee gives it on the field, it will never be overturned. The key for us was to go into the break while we were still in the game to fix a few things.”

Walker is fully relishing the challenge of Burnley

Burnley protector Kyle Walker to Football Saturday:

“You never say die. You go into the last kick of the game.

“Whatever will happen, but at least we can look in the mirror and say that we have given everything we have.

“This is a unique challenge and one that I thoroughly enjoy.”
