AFC Notes: Trevor Lawrence, Devin Lloyd, Xavier Restrepo, Jaguars, Titans

Jaguars LB Devin Lloyd completed his rookie contract and will become an unrestricted free agent after the team declined his fifth-year option. Jacksonville GM James Gladstone he’s excited to see Lloyd put together a breakout year, culminating in second-team All-Pro honors, and will decide how to deal with his contract situation this offseason.

“I’m really excited for Devin and his production this season, and really finding his footing in a way that matches what he knows he can be,” Gladstone said, via the group’s YouTube channel. “We’re looking forward to working through the offseason process with our coaching staff and everyone to figure out what’s best for everyone and see if there’s anything that needs to be done.”

Gladstone added that Lloyd was instrumental in their 13-4 season.

“Such an impactful season,” said Gladstone. The way he operated every day, every week was really fun to watch and see. The role he had in what we did this season was real, and I think it was very clear to everyone. ”

Jaguars GM James Gladstone said he was impressed with the QB Trevor LawrenceWorking and growing this season.

I was really impressed,” said Gladstone, via Jags Wire.I think back to the offseason program, there was a learning curve obviously, and the one thing that was very clear in every kind of window of the cycle was his interest in making sure that the surgery was clean, and he was going through it step by step to make sure that he was learning the right way and unloading the right way. And you could see the turnaround in the second week of training camp where he started not only learning but testing. Testing what would work, what would fit, all those kinds of things.

Gladstone added that Lawrence had better command of the offense as the season progressed, and recognized his leadership skills.

Usually just to back off Trevor,” Gladstone added, “the idea that you know teams that teams can be built during the offseason is true, but good, good, they come during the regular season. And you saw that change with Trevor during the regular season. There’s been a clear increase in command, control, comfort, playfulness, all of those things have come out in a real way, and I’m looking forward to being able to carry that momentum into the offseason here.

Titans WR Xavier Restrepo he said his first year in the club was humbling and he said he felt he had grown a lot in his first year.

It was very painful,” he said, via the team’s website. But I think I learned a lot from it, about being a professional every day, growing in my faith, and being ready when your time comes. And, for the most part, I think every time I got into a game, I was productive. I feel like I took advantage of my opportunities, and that’s what the NFL is all about.

Restrepo added that he kept his faith throughout the year, and knows he is right where he is meant to be.

My faith was the only thing that kept me going,” said Restrepo. My whole life story, I’ve always been an underdog. But it’s different when you’re in your dream, and your dream is so close, yet so far away. And the only thing you can rely on is your faith. With many prayers, even doubts, I talked to my Lord and Savior and let him know that I have a problem with doubts and worries and this business, it is not a long business. And I asked Him to give me confidence, and to give me the joy of the game back, because I was losing. I’ll be honest: I was losing it. But I’m playing football again, God answered my prayers, and I’m very grateful.”
