Bears-Rams: Keys to Chicago’s victory

The Bears are scheduled to play a game of Los Angeles Rams in the final game of the weekend, with kickoff scheduled for 5:30 pm CT.

We know it will be cold. It’s equally cold. It’s really, really cold.

But you wouldn’t want a January playoff game in Chicago to be any other way.

The matchups are getting harder each round. The Rams are a dangerous team, with a veteran player in the MVP conversation. He has plenty of offensive weapons and their defense is strong, too.

It will be a tough game.

Sam: The Bears should establish an early run here and get off to a quick start. The Rams are too good to let a big lead go. Chicago needs to pressure Matt Stafford, but that’s easier said than done if they can only rush four. The second will have its hands full with Puka Nakua and Davante Adams. Offense, score early and often and keep the pressure on Los Angeles.

Leicester: The Bears have to get to Matthew Stafford on Sunday, and they have to do it as well. Stafford is too good to blink, and the Bears need 7 to cover as much as possible. LA has a very good run D, but the Bears need to stick with it to grind out the clock and keep the Rams cold and on the sidelines. The fast passing game and screens should be part of the game plan this week, too.

Mongo Peanut: Stop the Rams offense. With cold temperatures expected, both teams will need to run the ball effectively to win. The Rams had 10 rushing yards in the regular season and the Bears will need to hold Kyren Williams and Blake Corum below their season averages to have a chance. If they can perform well on the floor, the lanes for Nacua and Adams will be open for the Rams. Billings, Dexter, and Jarrett’s big day will be key to the Bears’ victory.

Gary: To make Stafford’s life as uncomfortable as possible, it’s no secret that he struggled a lot in his work in cold weather. With kick off wind chill temps looking to be in the single digits, combined with his age and finger injury, finding a way to keep him under pressure is key, just like the Bears defense did in the second half against Jordan Love. If the Bears defense can organize some pressure on Stafford, they have a good shot at victory.

Jack R Salo: Matthew Stafford had an MVP-caliber year, but he still has moments of trusting his arm too much. Six of his eight passes on the year have been for losses, so the Bears need to add to that number more often. On offense, the Bears need to stay in the game to avoid the 4th slump that almost cost them last week. Get Loveland going early, then let the running game cook after the defense gets used to him.

Bryan: For me, this game is about establishing the run and stopping the run. Last season, Swift was able to sell them down (and the passing game, TBH) but so did Kyren Williams against our D. We now have Kyle Monangai and they have been getting good results from Blake Corum, so a double-header run game for both teams will be huge. After that, we need to get some pressure on Stafford with our front four. If we can do that, I have faith in our back 7 to make plays in the passing game. I can’t wait to see Caleb shine again.
