Hurricanes Aim To End Skid Against Rival Panthers

The Carolina Hurricanes (28-15-4) will begin a back-to-back set on Friday, starting with a very familiar foe, the Florida Panthers (24-18-3), in Raleigh. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM EST.

Coming off a loss at St. Louis on Tuesday and an overtime loss to Detroit on Monday, the Hurricanes are looking to get back into the win column, but may have to do so without key players.

Meanwhile, the Panthers had to deal with their injuries. Brad Marchand has been out since hitting Toronto Maple Leafs forward Bobby McMann on Jan. 6, and in the back, Seth Jones has been out since getting hit by a puck during the Winter Classic. However, they have found success in recent games, riding a two game winning streak.

Both the Hurricanes and Panthers will play on rest, with multiple days between games.

During Thursday morning’s practice, Brandon Bussi was in first place. This season, he has a goals against average of 2.31 and a save percentage of .902, with a record of 16-3-1.

The Panthers are expected to start Sergei Bobrovsky, who currently has a goals against average of 2.90 and a low save percentage of .881, with a record of 19-12-1.

Hurricane Game Notes

During Thursday’s practice, Shayne Gostisbehere was absent. Head coach Rod Brind’Amour said Gostisbehere was ‘not feeling well’ and it was not known how he would play in the game.

Jacob Slavin practiced on the top line alongside Jalen Chatfield, the question is whether he will play against the Panthers as the team was wary of playing him back. Brind’Amour confirmed that the club’s rule is related to the injury Slavin suffered in the summer.

After missing the ice for a two-game road trip, William Carrier returned to practice. Brind’Amour seemed hopeful that he would play with the Panthers, but he did not confirm it. If the Carrier pulls, Jesperi Kotkaniemi will be the scratch.
