AFC Notes: Mike Tomlin, Aaron Rodgers, Steve Bisciotti, Ravens, Steelers

There was chaos in the way of the Ravens players, incl Lamar Jacksoninfluenced the organization’s decision to dismiss John Harbaugh. Owner of Baltimore Steve Bisciotti he said he had made up his mind before talking to Jackson.
“I don’t think the players had a big role in my decision,” Bisciotti said, via Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. “My decision on Monday was right. When I got off the phone with Lamar, I told him that my decision was well planned. ‘But when I hang up, I don’t want you to think that the decision was reasonable.’ That was on Monday night.”
Bisciotti said there are people in the organization who prefer to keep Harbaugh, explaining that he feels they have not been successful in recent years.
“I just thought it was something that 10 years ago, we won the third most games in the NFL and yet, people said we were underclassmen,” Bisciotti said. “We were, and we had to own that.
As for whether Jackson will play a role in deciding their next coach, Bisciotti said the quarterback will have “a lot to say” but he will not be strong in his final choice.
“You say a lot, but he doesn’t have power. I have power. They have ideas, and I want them all. I care a lot about my players, but I can’t give them power,” Bisciotti said.

- Owner of the Steelers Art Rooney II about trading Tomlin: “Mike indicated that he didn’t expect to coach, at least in the immediate future. … If something like that comes up, we’ll deal with it when it comes up. But right now, it doesn’t seem to be on his radar.” (Pellisero)
- Rooney to Tomlin: “The important thing is that we were always arguing with Mike, and that’s what matters.” (Pryor)
- Rooney II says it was Tomlin’s decision to resign: “I wasn’t shocked, but I wasn’t expecting this conversation either. When you get to this stage of the job … you know it’s coming.” (Pryor)
- Rooney II: “Of course I was determined to run again next year with Mike. That’s what I was waiting to talk about yesterday.” (Rapoport)
- Tomlin departs from more than a “a decision related to family rather than a decision related to football,” by Rooney. (Farabaugh)
- Rooney II says he thinks Tomlin’s decision to leave will affect the QB Aaron Rodgers‘ the future: “Aaron came here to play for Mike. I think it will affect his decision.” (Pryor)
- The next Steelers coach will be hired from outside the organization, as Rooney notes that none of the current staff will be promoted to the position. (Jones)
