NFC Notes: Rashid Shaheed, Sean McVay, Cardinals, Rams, Seahawks

Cardinals WR coach Drew Terrell said WR Marvin Harrison, Jr. he is still learning the nuances of the game, and is starting to play more freely.
“There were many things he had to learn, he had to change his way of thinking,” Terrell said, via the team’s website.I’ve seen a big change in him, maybe it’s his mindset and the way he thinks about football, which was good. He plays a free style of football.“
Cardinals WR Michael Wilson quietly elevated himself to the team’s WR1 role.
“I know Mike’s process better than most and he really deserved all the credit he got,” he said.I continued to put good things on tape, I approached the game the right way, and I couldn’t be more proud of Mike and what he accomplished. He deserves it.”
The Rams had 42 total pass attempts in their Divisional Round win over the Bears despite playing in frigid Chicago. Los Angeles HC Sean McVay he said some of their attacking mistakes contributed to them hitting passes.
“There have been situations where we ran and ended up finding some things, some we wanted, some we didn’t,” McVay said, via RamsWire. “Those are the areas that I think at the end of the day, I’ve got to be better. I’ve got to be sharp. I think there’s certain situations where we can do that at a high clip. I thought we had some success early on that first drive. Then you start talking about the second series where we had three plays where we went three outs and outs. We made a mistake on the third and then on the third we made a mistake. A mistake on first and 10 after we got the first down after we finally hit ‘Ferg.’ on third and 11 and on fourth down, we had defensive errors again.
McVay added that he is more concerned about their execution compared to their run-pass balance.
“I think at the end of the day, we have to put it out all the time,” McVay said. “We must provide clarity. I’m not as concerned about the run-pass balance as our in-and-out rush. That wasn’t good enough. What I will also do is make sure that there is an identity that is there to be misunderstood that if we don’t have successful results, let’s turn around as soon as the situation and circumstances dictate if that gives us an opportunity to get more success. I thought that foreshadowed itself later in the game, but it took too long. That’s where I criticized myself and I won’t run away from that.”
Seattle traded for WR Rashid Shaheed deadline, and has made his mark in a big way so far in the playoffs, including a kickoff return to open the Divisional Round against the 49ers. Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald discussed that Shaheed’s game planning during his time with the Saints made them want to target him at this year’s deadline to make big plays like him.
“He was our guide throughout this process,” Macdonald said, via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “From my point of view, the coaches are a player we respect, when he catches the ball when it is kicked, you just say, ‘Here we have to stop this boy.’ When he’s on the field in an upset, you can’t let him get behind you, and the receiver run game is something you have to be accountable for. It helps the team a lot in the big time, so that was good.”
