NFL head coach interview requests: Updates, news and rumors

The end of the regular season doesn’t just close the book on another year in the NFL. For some franchises, it’s also accompanied by a reevaluation of the entire organization, which can lead to various firings. While some clubs have made changes during the season, the most common time we see head coaches and GMs let go is the day after the end of the regular season, better known as Black Monday.
In that time, we’ve seen six teams leave their head coach: the Falcons, Browns, Cardinals, Raiders, Ravens, and Dolphins. Recently, the Steelers have entered the coaching carousel in the back Mike Tomlin went downwhile the Bills are now looking for a head coach after firing Sean McDermott following another early exit.
Couple that with the two head coaching vacancies (Giants and Titans) that were already open due to midseason firings, and you have 25% of the league looking for a new coach. The Falcons and Dolphins also entered this season looking for a new GM.
So who fills all these positions?
With the Band-Aid removed, those groups now begin the process of finding their next leader. Below, we’ll document that tracking by tracking recent interviews and interview requests for each team.

Great coaches
Arizona Cardinals
Former coach: Jonathan Gannon
After three seasons on the job, the Cardinals decided to pass on Jonathan Gannon. He went 15-36 as the organization’s head coach, including a 3-14 season in 2025. Arizona finished the year on a nine-game losing streak. The Cardinals have made the playoffs once in the last 10 seasons.
Interview requests
The Baltimore Ravens
Former coach: John Harbaugh
In a surprising move, Baltimore opted to part ways with John Harbaugh after 18 seasons on the job. Harbaugh was the second longest-tenured coach in the NFL behind Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh, who knocked him out of the playoffs with a potentially debilitating Week 18 victory. Although this is the end of the season in Baltimore, the Ravens suddenly became the top job in the NFL simply because of the presence of two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson.

Buffalo bills
Former coach: Sean McDermott
After losing to the Denver Broncos in the divisional round, the Bills decided to pass on McDermott. While Buffalo usually makes the playoffs during their season, the team has also been able to make an early exit like this year. Couple that with losing a spot to the Patriots in the AFC East, and it culminated in a change of leadership.
Interview requests
Cleveland Browns
Former coach: Kevin Stefanski
Cleveland moved on from Kevin Stefanski after a 5-12 season in 2025 in which the franchise finished last in the AFC North. Stefanski coached the Browns for the past six seasons and won two Coach of the Year awards, but was 45-56 in his 101 regular season games.

Las Vegas Raiders
Former coach: Pete Carroll
Pete Carroll appeared to be one and done in Las Vegas after the 74-year-old was unable to raise the organization to respectability in 2025. The Raiders finished with the worst record in the NFL (3-14) and now hold the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. General manager John Spytek and minority owner Tom Brady are expected to lead the coaching search.

New York Giants
FOR RENT: John Harbaugh — former Ravens head coach. Harbaugh is headed to East Rutherford to help bring the Giants back to respectability. The former Ravens coach joins a New York team with intriguing pieces, led by quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Former coach: Brian Daboll
New York fired Daboll midway through the 2025 season after a 2-8 start to the year. He has been in his position since 2022 and went 20-40-1 during his regular season tenure. General manager Joe Schoen will remain with the organization and lead the search.
The Atlanta Falcons
FOR RENT: Kevin Stefanski — former Browns head coach. Stefanski joins the Falcons brain trust led by new president of football, Matt Ryan.
Former coach: Raheem Morris
After two seasons on the job, the Falcons fired Morris after a disappointing 2025 campaign. Atlanta finished 8-9 for the second straight season and was third in the NFC South.
The Miami Dolphins
FOR RENT: Jeff Hafley — Packers defensive coordinator. Hafley is a continuation of the Packers’ transition to South Florida after the Dolphins previously hired Jon-Eric Sullivan, formerly Green Bay’s VP of player personnel, as their GM. Hafley joins the Miami organization at a crucial time, especially given the uncertainty at quarterback.
Former coach: Mike McDaniel
The Dolphins have waited a long time to make a decision about Mike McDaniel’s future with the organization, fired him on Thursday after the regular season. At first, it seemed that McDaniel had saved his job, but Stephen Ross, after a meeting this week to discuss the season, decided to cut bait and go through a complete reset. It’s slated to be a season of change for Miami, as they now need a new coach and general manager and may be moving on from Tua Tagovailoa.
General managers
The Atlanta Falcons
The previous GM: Terry Fontenot
Atlanta cleaned house after the 2025 season, not only firing Raheem Morris but also parting ways with general manager Terry Fontenot. He’s been in the GM role since 2021 and was able to add intriguing position players like Bijan Robinson and Drake London, but he couldn’t find a viable plan at quarterback. A clear plan for that position is likely to be one that will be the most emphasized by owner Arthur Blank, and newly hired president of football Matt Ryan as they line up candidates this time around.

The Miami Dolphins
FOR RENT: Jon-Eric Sullivan – Packers VP of player personnel. Sullivan is a longtime Green Bay Packers executive who started with the team in 2003 and has served as vice president of player personnel since 2022.
Previous GM: Chris Grier
It was a tough decision for the Dolphins and Grier to part ways during the 2025 season, simply because of his tenure with the organization. He started as a scout in 2000 and has been with the franchise ever since, moving up to GM in 2016. Miami has made the playoffs just three times in 10 years as GM, and has been under .500 in the last two seasons, due to an inability to build a stable roster.
