PGA Tour: Harry Hall doubles lead at Sony Open into final round at Waialae | Golf News

England’s Harry Hall is two shots behind leader Davis Riley heading into the final round of the PGA Tour’s season-opening Sony Open in Hawaii.

Hall, chasing his second PGA Tour title and first since the 2024 ISCO Championship, carded a four-under 66 at Waialae Country Club to move to 10 under and tied for second.

He combined for five birdies and one bogey to sit two back of Genesis Scottish Open champion Chris Gotterup and American Kevin Roy, as intermediate leader Riley moved into the advantage after a third-round 67 on the par-70 course.

Hall opened with a 15-foot birdie and followed up back-to-back gains from the eighth with another bogey at the 13th, then bounced back to miss his 8-foot save attempt at the 15th for the next birdie to stay in contention.

“Last year I was in contention – I came out on top with nine laps to go and I didn’t do well,” said Hall. “I think my thinking would be to do whatever makes me comfortable in the shops, and if I can keep it short most of the day I’ll have a good chance.”

Riley started the weekend in a five-way tie for the lead and had seven holes left in his round to play, but the American made four birdies late on – in windy conditions – to bolster his hopes of a third PGA Tour victory.

The 29-year-old rebounded from a bogey on the 3rd 11th with a birdie at the next four, then followed up consecutive birdies from the 14th by making a two-putt birdie at the last to double his lead.

“You have to make gritty pars in these conditions and try to make putts on these fast greens in windy conditions when you get the chance,” Riley said.

Gotterup and Roy carded rounds of 68 and 69 respectively to sit 10 under alongside Hall, with England’s John Parry recovering from two bogeys in his first four holes to post a third-round 69 and move within three strokes of the lead.
