Anthony Franco

  • Hello, I hope you are well!
  • An interesting week, let’s continue

LFGM

  • The head is spinning! Lost Tucker, found Bichette all during the day. I don’t think the Mets should trade Baty, if Bichette is out after 1 year you don’t have a 3B, so two questions, how do the Mets work 1B, LF & DH if they keep Baty. Do you think Vientos, or Mauricio have the value combined with the slim prospects of getting the SP the Mets need/want? Maybe Freddy Peralta?

Sam

The Lance

  • The Mets have a roster full of middle infielders and at least one poor outfielder, how do you see that shake out?

Anthony Franco

  • A few more Mets questions here
  • I don’t think Vientos (or certainly not Mauricio) has the juice to talk about the Peralta deal, but to me I feel like he’s being traded. Looks better than Baty, who offers more positional value as a capable second/third (and maybe first) defender.
  • It seems like the Mets were bullied in the Vientos/Robert lineup at the deadline but I wonder if that will work now if the Sox spend a lot of money or put a reliever without Grant Taylor in there.

Dave

  • How much of this “rush” comes from a few well-funded teams to spend large sums of money on short-term contracts because of the expectation that the upcoming lockout will force a limited amount of salary?

Philly A

  • Are AVV contracts short-term but high because of a possible strike?

Anthony Franco

  • I don’t think that has much to do with it. We seem to have a few spenders who didn’t want to go long with some very good but flawed hitters at the top of the class.
  • Obviously if you’re not willing to commit seven or eight years to one of these guys, you need to compensate by juicing the AAV. The Mets had more cap space compared to last season and were running out of players to use after missing Tucker.

Stott is Heartfelt and Guilty

  • Three years on Realmuto means Dombrowski plans to retire after 2 and let someone else clean up the mess?

Anthony Franco

  • Haha if that was the case, why don’t you want to go to three years in November?
  • I’m a little surprised they failed but I thank JTR and his camp for waiting for it. It seems that Bichette is the last player they were willing to use and when he chose another place, they said “screw us, let’s get rid of Realmuto”

Justin

  • How did the Tucker and Bichette deals affect Cody Bellinger?

Anthony Franco

  • The Mets could still accommodate Belli, I think, but that seems very unlikely right now. Other than that, it is not sure that it is very important. The Dodgers never felt there and the Yankees never seemed there for Tucker. My guess is that they get the Yankees to jump in for year six and get it over with

Shatkins

  • Did aaron judge just become the lowest paid player in the game (excluding arb controlled assets)

Anthony Franco

  • It’s Ohtani for me but Judge is second. That deal felt like a success for the Yanks at the time and obviously looks a lot better now that the top salaries in the market have gone since.

Soooo

  • What’s next for Boston? I feel like they still need a bat, but I’d hate to see them lose Early or Tolle. Does some combination of Harrison and Crawford (and others) get Paredes?
